The inconveniences are usually minor, but if you plan for them in advance by picking up some of the solutions in your grocery store you will have the solutions in advance. Some quick cooking in the kitchen tips are:
- Make grating cheese easier. To make cheese easier to grate, place in the freezer for an hour, this will keep it hard and easy to handle without the cheese losing flavor.
- Boiled eggs that crack. If your eggs have been to crack and the whites have not begun to ooze, add a capful of vinegar to the boiling water and watch the shell heal itself.
- Egg whites that ooze. When you take you eggs out of the refrigerator to boil them gently pierce the top of the egg with a pin. This allows the air in the egg's air pocket to come out with out oozing.
- Food sticking to the pan. Put cold food into a warm clean pan, not a cold pan
- Cooking pasta, rice and potatoes and keeping water from boiling over. Rub the top(rim) of the pan with a thin layer of butter to keep the water in the pot from boiling over.
- Cutting the perfect slice. Freeze cake before cutting it to get perfect slices. For bread, you can use dental floss. Dental floss can also be used to slice cake in half to put filling in.
- Egg substitution. Use two tablespoons of real mayonnaise as a substitution for one egg in any recipe. If you want additional salt, you can use whipped salad dressing.
- Keeping potatoes from sprouting. Add a small apple to the bag, apples gives off a gas that helps speed up ripening of other vegetables except potatoes.
- Soggy pre-made sandwiches. To keep a pre-made sandwich from getting soggy pack the bread and filling separately.
- Unsightly grease splatter protection. To minimize grease splatter when frying foods, add salt to the oil before frying.
